Frequently Asked Questions

What is Leisure Coast Cycle Club?

Leisure Coast Cycle Club is a community of riders based in Wollongong, New South Wales where it’s all about the rides and the laid back vibes. Our goal is to get more people out enjoying the Wollongong coastline on two wheels, from Port Kembla to Thirroul and beyond.

When and where do you ride?

We roll out every Wednesday and most weekends around Wollongong, including the coast road, escarpment climbs and a few local café stops. Routes and roll-out times are shared weekly on Instagram, Strava and on our Rides page.

Do I need to be fast to join?

No way. Our Wollongong group rides are social, not competitive. We ride at a steady pace, regroup often and make sure everyone gets home safely. If you can handle an hour or two on the bike and enjoy good company, you’ll fit right in.

We have a quick briefing before each ride so if you’re new, it’s a good time to let us know about your levels of experience, fitness and confidence in a group ride setting. If you need to ease off, take a breather or head home early, that’s totally cool.

What kind of bikes do you ride?

Most of us ride road bikes, but gravel, all-road and adventure bikes are always welcome. The rides vary, and sometimes we mix it up with “Easy Rider” sessions — shorter, more relaxed spins along the coast.

How do I join a ride?

Most of us ride road bikes, but gravel, all-road and adventure bikes are always welcome. The rides vary, and sometimes we mix it up with “Easy Rider” sessions — shorter, more relaxed spins along the coast. Some experience riding is preferred but don’t worry if you haven’t done much group riding before.

What should I bring?

Bring a helmet, water, some nutrition like gels or a banana and some coffee money. Sunscreen doesn’t hurt either in the warmer months. Layer up when it’s cold.

Who is responsible for my safety on a ride?

Leisure Coast Cycle Club is a volunteer-led, social riding group. While rides are coordinated and supported by a ride organiser, you are responsible for your own safety, bike, equipment and decisions on the road. Cycling involves risk, and when you ride with us, you accept those risks as your own.

Is there a ride leader?

Rides are organised by a volunteer ride leader who sets the route, communicates the general pace and helps keep the group moving together where possible.

The ride leader may call hazards, point out cars or suggest safe places to regroup, but they are not responsible for managing traffic, enforcing behaviour or ensuring the safety of individual riders.

Everyone rides independently and is responsible for riding safely, obeying road rules and making their own decisions at all times.

Do I have to pay to join LCCC?

No, it’s free! Leisure Coast Cycle Club is inclusive and welcoming — all genders, all experience levels, all riders welcome. If you love bikes and coastal roads, you’re in the crew!

Do you sell Leisure Coast Cycle Club merch?

Not yet, but it is on our to do list! Let us know if it is something you would get around. We’re thinking dad hats, oversized t-shirts and socks — off-bike streetwear for people who like cycling.

Why is it called Leisure Coast Cycle Club?

This part of the NSW coastline has always been known as the Leisure Coast. It’s a reminder to take it easy, enjoy the ride and appreciate where you live. It’s cycling — but with more salt air and less attitude. And honestly, the Leisure Coast could really be anywhere. We’re all about rides and laid back vibes, wherever you are.
